What is a NetRing?

A NetRing is a community of pages with related content, organized into a circular ring. Each page in a ring has links which let visitors move to an adjacent site on the ring, summon a ring index, or hop to a random site. NetRings let web visitors quickly and reliably find sites with related subjects.

Sites can be on more than one ring at a time. Visitors may jump from ring to ring as they explore the ring network.

Navigating NetRings

Each ring site has a ring control panel, similar to the one pictured below:

A ring control panel

The four links let you navigate a ring:

There are a few other links that you might also encounter on certain RingSurf Net Rings:

1.  Are webrings free?

Yes. RingSurf (who runs our webring) is free both for users as well as page owners.

2.  How do you make money then?

RingSurf is supported by advertising on the ring directory and management pages.  You make money by being attached to a larger brand that can help people come to your site.

3.  Do you put ads on my pages?

No. Member pages must show the ring control panel so users can navigate the ring they're on, and be able to summon the ring index. But we never put any ads on your page with the control panel.

4.  Do I have to change my html when the rings change?

No. All of the ring maintainenance is performed by RingSurf. The RingSurf cgi programs let us add sites to existing rings, and add new ring categories, without having to change anyone's control panel html.

5.  Can a site be on more than one ring at the same time?

Yes. A member page can be on more than one ring at the same time.

6.  How many hits will I get from this webring?

Members of popular rings with many sites tend to get more ring hits than pages in rings with only a few members. As a ring grows and each site builds their traffic, every member page benefits from the additional visitors. The best way to increase ring traffic is to convince other pages with content similar to yours to join your rings.

7.  What are the different ways visitors can arrive at my site through the ring system?

There are several ways visitors can arrive at your site:
